Cardiovascular Drugs Flashcards
Diuretics
Drugs that accelerate the rate of urine formation that results to the removal of sodium and water from the body
Anticoagulants
Decreases the clotting (coagulating) ability of the blood. Sometimes called blood thinners, although they do not actually thin the blood. They do NOT dissolve existing blood clots. Used to treat certain blood vessel, heart and lung conditions.
Antiplatelet Agents and Dual Antiplatelet Therapy (DAPT)
Keeps blood clots from forming by preventing blood platelets from sticking together
HEART FAILURE
Pathologic state in which the heart is unable to pump in sufficient amounts from the ventricles to meet metabolic needs
POSITIVE INOTROPIC drugs
increase the force of myocardial contraction
POSITIVE CHRONOTROPIC drugs
increase the rate in which the heart beats
POSITIVE DROMOTROPIC drugs
accelerate conduction
ACEI
potent vasoconstrictor and can prevent Na and water resorption causing diuresis
LIDOCAINE
Lidocaine used as a topic anesthetic is with added epinephrine to control bleeding in the area. Never used intravenously
Tranexamic Acid
prevent lysis of fibrin by displacing plasmin from the fibrin clot or by increasing factor VII
