Cardiovascular Drugs Flashcards
It has 2 primary function: Delivers of oxygen, and removal of carbon dioxide and metabolic waste from cells
Circulatory System
Defined as a persistent systolic bp of 140mmHg and with the diastolic pressure greater than 90mmHg
Hypertension
Determined by the product of cardiac output and systemic vascular resistance
Blood pressure
Amount of blood ejected from the left ventricle and measured in Lpm
Cardiac output
Resistance to blood flow that is determined by the diameter of the blood vessels and vascular musculature
SVR (Systemic vascular resistance)
Drugs that accelerates the rate of urine formation that results to the removal of sodium and water from the body
Diuretics
ADRENERGIC DRUGS:
Acts on the brain by decreasing NE production
Central Acting
ADRENERGIC DRUGS:
at the heart and blood vessels
Peripheral Acting
It is the pathologic state in which the heart is unable to pump in sufficient amounts from the ventricles to meet metabolic state
Heart failure
Acronymn for RIGHT SIDED heart failure
“AW HEAD”
-Anorexia & Nausea
-Weight gain
-Hepatomegaly
-Edema (Bipedal)
-Ascites
-Distended neck vein
Acronymn for LEFT-SIDED heart failure
“DO CHAP”
-Dyspnea
-Orthopnea
-Cough
-Hemoptysis
-Adventitious Breath Sounds
-Pulmonary Congestion
It increased the force of myocardial contraction
Positive Inotropic drugs
It increased the rate in which the heart beats
Positive Chronotropic drugs
Accelerates conduction
Positive Dromotropic drugs
Any deviation from the normal rhythm of the heart
Dysrhythmias
