What is CHD
Blood vessels supplying the heart are narrowed or blocked
What is atherosclerosis
Inflammatory disease causing arteries to harden and thicken due to plaque buildup
What are atheroma
Accumulation of cellular material and debris within artery walls
3 Causes of atherosclerosis
High cholesterol, high BP, obesity
What is angina
Attacks of chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart
What happens to the heart during a heart attack
Muscle cells in the heart suffer damage and start to die
What is heart failure
Heart unable to pump blood round the body properly
What is a stroke
Blood supply to part of the brain is cut off
What are the 2 types of stroke
Ischemic and hemorrhagic
What is the cause of an ischemic stroke
Blocked blood vessel
What is the cause of a hemorrhagic stroke
Burst blood vessel
What is a transient ischaemic attack (TIA)
Mini stroke where blood supply to brain is temporarily disrupted
