what is cholesterol
waxy, fat like substance needed to build cell membranes, hormones and vitamin d in the body
what happens if there is too much cholesterol
it can build up in your arteries and form plaque
what do low density lipoproteins do (LDL)
it deposits cholesterol in arteries, (bad cholesterol)
what do high density lipoproteins do (HDL)
can remove the plaque (good cholesterol)
do foods contain LDL or HDL
no foods contain HDL or LDL, but some fats in foods can lower the number of the proteins in your body
what is atherosclerosis
blockage of blood In arteries
what is coronary heart disease
blockage of blood leading to the heart which causes heart cells to die (a heart attack)
what is angina
the pain caused by the heart not being able to move oxygen to the body (think of agony, I’m in agony from this pain)
what does the coronary bypass surgery do
bypasses the clogged arteries in the heart so it can keep functioning
what is a stroke
cholesterol build up in arteries harden and crack, which causes sharp surfaces to rupture creating platelets, which causes blood clots in the brain and blockage if blood and oxygen
