Cardiovascular- anatomy and physiology Flashcards
How does the heart pump?
- Blood flows from the superior and inferior vena cava into the right atrium.
- From the Right Atrium it flows through the Tricuspid value into the Right ventricle.
- From the Right ventricle it flows into the Pulmonary artery through the Pulmonic value.
- From here it flows into lungs to get oxygenated
- It then flows back into the left Atrium
- It then flows through the Mistral Value into the left ventricle
- From there it flows through the aortic value into the aorta
- From the aorta it gets cycled to the rest of the body
What is blood?
Transports O2, nutrients, heat, chemical messages. The blood Also removes waste products
What are the four chambers of the heart
Left and right Atria.
Left and right ventricles
What are Arteries
Carry blood away from the heart
What are veins
They carry blood back to the heart
What is CHF
Congestive heart Failure.
When the heart fails to meet the needs of the body by not pumping enough blood
What are additional Adverse effects of a persons heart failure
- Fluid retention (edema)
- Chest tightening- Difficulty breathing (dyspnea)
- Fatigue
What is edma
Fluid Retention
What is Dyspnea
Chest Tighening
What is Arrythmia
Anything that creates a defect to your heart beat rhythm
What is cardiac Conduction
The “pacemaker” cells- keep a rhythm for your heart beating
What are some symptoms of arrythmia
Range from Palpitation to cardiac arrest
What are some causes of arrythmia
Congenital, Drug therapy, and a result of damage heart as a result Congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, Myocardial infarction
What is atherosclerosis
Narrowing of the arteries
What causes Atherosclerosis
cholesterol/ lipid and calcium deposits in the walls of the arteries
What is Angina
Chest pain that results from insufficient blood flow to the myocardium
