Cardiovascular Flashcards
1
Q
What is the difference between the circulatory system and the cardiovascular system?
A
- the circulatory system is made up of the heart, blood vessels and blood
- the cardiovascular system is made up of the heart, arteries and capillaries
2
Q
What is the Pulmonary circuit?
A
- It is on the right side of the heart and carries blood to the lungs for gas exchange. (e.g. deoxygenated blood is carried to the heart to become oxygenated again)
3
Q
What is the Systemic circuit?
A
It is on the left side of the heart and carries oxygenated blood to all the organs in the body.
4
Q
Where is the heart positioned?
A
It is in the mediastinum, which is in the middle of the thoracic cavity, between the lungs.
5
Q
What is the Mediastinum?
A
- The space between the two lungs that contains all structures other than the lungs. At the top there is the thoracic inlet and at the bottom there is the thoracic outlet.
6
Q
Where does the horizontal plane in the mediastinum go between?
A
- From the angle of the sternum to between the 4th and 5th intercostal spaces.
7
Q
What are the four main divisions of the mediastinum?
A
- the superior(above the horizontal plane), the anterior(anterior to pericardium), the middle(contains the heart and pericardium) and the posterior(below the pericardium).
8
Q
What is the mediastinum?
A
It is the central compartment of the thoracic cavity and contains all of the thoracic viscera except from the lungs.
9
Q
What is the Pericardium?
A
It is a fibroserous
