Cardiovascular Flashcards
What is CO?
Cardiac Output
The amount of blood ejected from the heart per minute.
What is EF?
Ejection Fraction
The amount of blood ejected from the left ventricle with each contraction of the heart
What is normal EF?
greater than 60%
What level of EF shows symptoms of CHF?
less than 50%
What EF is considered severe heart failure?
less than 45%
What is the formula for CO?
CO = SV x HR
What is normal CO?
4-7L/min
What is cardiac cathertization?
internal view of heart and obtaining pressures by means of a catheter inserted typically in the femoral artery and threaded up with the use of contrast dye
What are 2 concerns with dye used in cardiac cathertization?
- allergy to shellfish
2. hard on the kidney’s - nephrotoxic Review Bun and Creatinine for pre-existing kidney disease BEFORE exam
