What is an Aneurysm?
Widening of a blood vessel that results in a blood sac.
What is Angina?
Severe, constricting chest pain due to heart tissues not receiving enough blood.
What is Arrhythmia?
Abnormal, irregular heartbeat.
What is Bradycardia?
Usually slow heart rate.
What is a Bruit?
A murmur or sound heard in auscultation indicating narrowing of a vessel.
What is Capillary Refill?
The return of color after pressing down on the skin.
What is an Embolism?
Obstruction of blood vessels by a clot of blood or foreign substance.
What is Hemorrhage?
Loss of blood from the body, internally or externally.
What is Hypertension?
Elevated blood pressure.
What is Hypotension?
Low blood pressure.
What is an Infarct?
Death of a tissue caused by loss of blood supply.
What is Ischemia?
Temporary, localized area of blood restriction.
What is a Murmur?
Extra heart sounds.
What are Palpitations?
Awareness of one’s own heartbeat.
What is Pitting Edema?
Fluid buildup, typically in the legs, that leaves a “pit” or indention when pressed.
What is Stenosis?
Narrowing of an opening.
What is Tachycardia?
Unusually fast heart rate.
Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
Chronic condition where the heart loses its ability to effectively
pump blood
Costochondritis
Inflammation of the costal cartilage
Deep venous thrombosis
Blood clot in a deep vein, most typically in the legs
Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD)
Condition of narrowing of the outer blood vessels, reducing
blood flow to the limbs
STEMI (ST-Elevation MI)
Heart Attack characterized by elevation of the
ST wave on an EKG
Ventricular tachycardia
Pulse of more than 100 bpm with at least 3 irregular heartbeats
in a row
