Cardiovascular Flashcards
Pulmonary circulation
Sends deoxygenated blood from the right side of heart to lungs through pulmonary artery, and oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left side of heart through the pulmonary vein
Systemic circulation
Send oxygenated blood from the left side of heart to the tissues through the aorta and deoxygenated blood from the tissues to the right side of heart through the vena cava
Heart valves
Tricuspid separates the right atrium and right ventricle, biscuspid (mitral)separates the left atrium and left ventricle, pulmonary valve at the exit of right ventricle and aortic valve at the exit of the left ventricle
Trigger of heart beat
Signal starts at sa node, travels to antrioventricular node down the bundle of is, into the purkinje system
Control of heart rate
Parasympathetic decreases heart rate, sympathetic nervous system acts to raise heart rate
Cardia output is
The amount of blood pumped per minute , 5 litres per minute at rest, cardiac output = heart rate x stroke volume
Arteries
Carry blood from the heart to tissues
Veins
Carry blood to the heart
Capillaries
Are the site of respiratory Gad exchange and nutrient exchange
Components of blood
Plasma platelets red blood cells
Ventilation is
The process of moving air into and out of the trachea, bronchi and lungs
Diffusion is
The process of exchanging oxygen and carbon dioxide across the alveolar capillary membranes
Perfusion is
The process of supplying oxygenated blood to the lungs and other organs via blood vessels
Respiration is
Respiration is the process in which cells use oxygen to produce energy aerobically
The breathing pipe order
Nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, alveoli
