Cardiorespiratory1 Flashcards
What is the lymphatic system?
Network of tissues, vessels and organs that work together to move a colorless, warery fluid called lymph back into your circulatory system.
Whas is interstitial fluid?
Fluif found in the spaces around cells, it comes from substances that leak out from blood capillaries. It helps bring oxygen and nutrients to cells an removes waste products. As new interstitial fluid is made it replaces older fluid, which drains towards lymph vessels. When it enters the lymph vessel, it is called lymph.
What is the anatomical name for heart strings
Cordae tendinae
What are Chordae tindanae attached to?
Papillary muscles
What are the two atrioventricular vales called
Tricuspid and bicuspid or mitral valve.
What do chordae tendinae do?
They prevent the mitral and tricuspid valves flipping back into the atria during ventricular contraction(systole).
What kind of valves are the pulmonary and aortic valves?
Semilunar. They do not have cordae tindinae.
What are end arteries and where are they ?
Arteries that supply oxygenated bllod to one tissue. Eg spleen, heart, digits, liver, penis, gut, ears, nose
What is CABG?
Coronary artery bypass graph, what id done by using either a part of the saphenous vein or the mammary artery bypass
What is the sinuatrial node?
It is the pacemaker of the heart and generates electrical signal.
It is also the moderator band allowing for more rapid conduction across the anterior papillary muscle, that helps w conduction times.
What are Purkinjie firbres?
Specialised fibres, conducting fibres, bigger than myocytes, that create a synchronised contraction across the ventricles, maintaining a regular heart rate.
What kind of epithelium is there in the lungs?
Pseudostratified, columnar, ciliated epithelium w goblet cells.
