Cardiopulmonary resus Flashcards
What are the steps in the cardiac arrest algorithm
- Assess for any hazards to self
- Check if the patient is responsive
- Ask for help
- Start chest compressions: Compress at a rate of 100-120 per min
- Give 2 breaths per every 30 in adults and every 15 in children
- Defib
- Continue chest compressions
What are the shockable rythems
- VFib
- Pulseless ventricular tachycardia
What is done in a V tach with a palpable pulse
Give amiodorone
What is the dose of adrenaline that is given in patients in cardiac arrest
Adults: 1mg every 3-5 mins
Paediatrics: 0.01mg/kg every 3-5 mins
When do you give adrenaline
Immediately in non-shockable rhythms
Given after the 2nd shock on a shockable rhythms
When is amiodarone given to patients
In VF and pVT after the 3rd shock
What are the indications for the use of amiodarone
- It is the first line treatment in a patient with arrhythmias in shockable rhythms
- It acts to stabilise the cardiac membranes and slows conduction and prolongs the repolarization
What is the dose of amiodarone and when is it given
Adults: 300mg after the 3rd shock
Paediatrics: 5mg/kg
When is lidocaine given in a cardiac arrest
In shockable rhythms after defib and adrenaline
What are the indications for giving lidocaine
It is given as an alternative to amiodarone in the case that there is a contraindication or it is not available
What is the dose of lidocaine that is given
1.5 mg/kg
What are the reversible causes of cardiac arrest (11)
