Cardiopulmonary Flashcards
1st Deg AV block
Impulse is delayed on the way to the AV node
Can indicate infarction or caused by digoxin, beta blockers
Relatively w/o symp, except during severe bradycardia (20 bpm)
2nd Deg AV Block Type I
Weneckebach or Mobitz I
Benign, prevents conduction of some of the impulses thru the AV node
Can indication infarction, CAD, digoxin toxicity, betablockers
Asymptomatic w/o CO compromise
No Rx necessary
2nd Deg AV Block Type II
Mobitz II
Nonconduction of an impulse to the ventricle w/o change in PR interval
May indicate MI, ischemia, digoxin toxicity, beta blockers, infarct of the AV node
Symptomatic when HR is low and when CO is compromised
Usually treated with pacemaker with brady-tachy syndrome; or they can do atropine or isoproterenol
PT IS CONTRAINDICATED
Can convert to 3rd degree
3rd Deg AV Block
Complete heart block, no communication btw atria and ventricles
Acute MI, digoxin toxicity, degeneration of the conduction system
If slow ventricular rate, CO is compromised
Pts c/o cardiac signs and symp
Given pacemaker, atropine or isoproterenol
It’s a medical emergency and PT is contraindicated
