Cardiomyopathies Flashcards
What is a neuromuscular causes of DCM?
Duchenne muscular dystrophy
What is the name of late-stage cardiomyopathy?
Peripartum
Describe the genetics of DCM
Genetic causes of familial DCM are identified in approximately 30% of cases (the most heterogeneous CM)
DCM is predominantly caused by mutations in genes encoding cytoskeletal and sarcomeric proteins
Which is the most common form of nonischemic cardiomyopathy (60% of all cases)?
DCM
Which drug should you not give with a DCM?
CCB
What are some possible options for a differential diagnosis of DCM?
- Acute Coronary Syndrome
- Acute Pericarditis
- Amphetamine Toxicity
- Beriberi (Thiamine Deficiency)
- Cardiac Tamponade
- Cocaine Toxicity
- Cocaine-Related Cardiomyopathy
- Heavy Metal Toxicity
- Hyperthyroidism
- Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy
- Myocarditis
- Restrictive Cardiomyopathy
What are some possible diagnostic options for DCM?
CBC, CMP, thyroid function tests, cardiac biomarkers, BNP, chest radiography, echocardiography, MRI, ECG
What are some of the key S/S for DCM?
Fatigue, DOE, edema, ascites, SOB, JVD, Tachycardia, cardiomegaly, hypoxia
What are some non-pharmacologic treatment options for DCM?
Exercise, quit smoking, don’t use illegal drugs or drink alcohol excessively, maintain a healthy weight, and eat a heart-healthy diet
What is a stress-induced CM called?
Takatsubo’s CMP
What are some pharmacologic options for treating DCM?
