They DO use catheters and help treat narrow or weak heart valves

Define Invasive Cardiology
is a branch of cardiology that deals specifically with the catheter based treatment of structural heart diseases.
What is a coronary angioplasty
Placement of a balloon or stent in the artery to clear blockage. The stent then holds the narrow artery open and reduces likelihood that it will narrow again
What is a directional atherectomy?
Use of a cutting black to cut out the fatty deposit and remove it from the body (beneficial in about 1% of cases)
What are the types of procedures performed by an interventional cardiologist?
- Angioplasty / Stenting
- Atherectomy
- Carotid Stenting
- Embolic protection
- Percutaneous mitral valve repair
What is clinical cardiac electrophysiology?
A field of special interest within Cardiovascular disease that involves procedures to evaluate heart rhythms and determine appropriate treatment
What is nuclear cardiology?
Field to asses the pumping function of the heart, presence of blockages in coronary arteries and degree of damage to the heart
