Cardio Vascular System Flashcards
Right atria
The upper right chamber of the heart that receives deoxygenated blood from the body through the superior and inferior vena cava.
Left atria
The upper left chamber of the heart that receives oxygenated blood from the lungs via the pulmonary veins.
Right ventricle
The lower right chamber of the heart that pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs through the pulmonary arteries.
Left ventricle
The lower left chamber of the heart that pumps oxygenated blood to the rest of the body through the aorta.
Sinoatrial node
The natural pacemaker of the heart, located in the right atrium, that generates electrical impulses to regulate the heartbeat.
Atrioventricular node
A cluster of cells located between the atria and ventricles that helps regulate the electrical signals passing from the atria to the ventricles.
Aorta
The largest artery in the body that carries oxygenated blood from the left ventricle to the rest of the body.
Coronary arteries
The arteries that supply oxygenated blood to the heart muscle itself.
Carotid Arteries
The major arteries located in the neck that supply blood to the brain, neck, and face.
Brachial Arteries
the arteries that supply blood to the upper arm, located near the humerus (upper arm bone).
Subclavian Arteries
The arteries that supply blood to the arms and parts of the chest, located below the clavicles (collarbones).
Femoral Arteries
The major arteries in the thighs that supply blood to the legs and lower body.
Right and left pulmonary arteries
The arteries that carry deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle to the lungs for oxygenation. The right pulmonary artery goes to the right lung, and the left pulmonary artery goes to the left lung.
Right and left pulmonary veins
the veins that carry oxygenated blood from the lungs back to the left atrium of the heart.
