< 5,000 = with fever, exercise is contraindicated
< 1,000 = use mask, standard precautions
Red Blood Cells
Male: 4.6 - 6.2
Female: 4.2 - 5.9
Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR)
Male: < 15 mm/hr
Female: < 20 mm/hr
Hematocrit (HCT)
Male: 45 - 52%
Female: 37 - 48%
> 25% but less than normal = light exercise only
< 25% = exercise contraindicated
Hemoglobin (Hgb)
Male: 13 - 18 g/dL
Female: 12 - 16 g/dL
8 - 10 g/dL = light exercise only
< 8 g/dL = exercise contraindicated
Platelet count
150,000 - 450,000 cells/mm3
< 20,000 = AROM, ADLs only
20,000 - 30,000 = light exercise only
30,000 - 50,000 = moderate exercise
