Cardio-Pulmonary Flashcards
What do we combine cardio/pulmonary systems?
significant overlap - biomechanical, circulation, innervation, lympahtics
areas of constant homeostatic control
How are heart and lungs connected?
via vasculature and membranous structures
(biomechanical)
What condition can hinder CP function?
Scoliosis
5-15o: mild scoliosis
20-45o: moderate scoliosis
>50o: severe scoliosis
What is the Cobb method?
used to classify scoliosis and mild, moderate or severe
cobb angle is formed by the intersection of a line parallel to the superior end plate of the most cephalad vertebra in a particular curve, with the line parallel to the inferior end plate of the most caudad vertebra of the curve
When is respiratory function compromised in scoliosis?
cobb angle is >50o
What happens to lympathic flow with hypersympathetic tone?
decreased lymph flow
due to thoracic duct being under sympathetic control
What is the sympathic innervation of the heart?
What is the parasympathic innervation of the heart?
What do sympathic fibers do to HR and coronary arteries?
Describe the cardiac plexus
What controls relaxation in the pulmonary system? constriction?
both by parasympathetics
smooth m. tone of the airways is mainly parasympathetics
What are the anterior and posterior chapman points of the heart and lungs?
What are the goals of OMT for CP? (five models)
Generalized paraspinal inhibition can be used to decrease what?
SVR
What is the five model approach to HTN?
