Angina Pain Scale
1: mild barely noticeable
2: moderate, bothersome
3: Moderately severe, very uncomfortable
4: most severe or intense pain ever experienced
Ankle brachial index: ABI (definition)
compares systolic BP at the ankle and arm to check for peripherial artery disease
Ankle brachial index: ABI
> 1.30: indicates rigid arteries and need for US to test for PAD
1.0-1.30: normal no blockage
0.8-.99: mild blockages, beginnings of PAD
0.4-.79: mod blockages; may be associated with intermittent claudication during exercise
<0.4: severe blockage suggesting severe PAD. may have claudication pain at rest.
Capillary refill time
Normal: full color returns in 2 sec (cap blood flow compromised)
circumferences for limb edema
Mild:5cm
METs: walking, Jog, Run
walk slowly= 2 3mph= 3-4METs 4mph= 4.5-7.0 METs Jog 5 mph= 8.0 run 7mph= 11.5 METS
METs: Self Care: Toileting, driving, working at computer, bathing, washing windows, mow lawn, shoveling, heavy farm work
Toileting: 1-2 Driving: 1-2 computer work: 1.5 bathing: 2-3 Cooking:2-3 washing windows: 3.0 lawn mowing: 5.5 shoveling: 7.0 farm work: 8.0
METs: leisure/ sports
Playing cards: 1.5 slow dancing: 3.0 BBall shooting around:4.5 sex:4-5 biking 10-12mph: 6.0 backpacking:5-11 biking 14-16mph: 10.0
Heat stroke
disorientation, dizziness, apathy, headache, nausea, vomiting, hyperventilation, wet skin
Heat exhaustion
Low BP, elev HR and RR, wet and pale skin, weakness, dizziness
Heat Syncope
decreased HR and RR, pale skin, weakness, vertigo, nausea
Heat cramps
localized muscle spasms progressing to debilitating muscle cramps
