Cardiac tumors Flashcards
3 types
- Cardiac myxomas
- Rhabdomyomas
- Metastatic
Cardiac myxoma epidemiology
1 primary cardiac tumor, adult tumor
Cardiac myxoma appearance/location
MC in the left atrium, can block MV if mobile (over 1/2)
Glistening, gelatinous, polypoid mass
5-6 cms
Short stalk (pedunculated)
Cardiac myxoma mortality
Most from embolization to brain
Cardiac myxoma treatment
Surgically remove-most are successful
Rhabdomyoma epidemiology
MC cardiac primary tumor in children/infants
Rhabdomyoma appearance
Pale, gray nodular masses
Nodules in myocardium striated muscle
Almost all are multiple
Rhabdomyoma location
Almost all: L and R ventricles
1/3: Atria also
1/2: project into cardiac chamber
Metastatic from
Lung, Breast, GI
Also lymphatic, leukemia, melanoma
Metastatic manifestations
Of Restrictive cardiomyopathy
