Cardiac response to shock Flashcards
1
Q
what are the four different types of shock and examples?
A
Hypovolaemic: haemorrhagic/non-haemorrhagic
Cardiogenic: e.g. MI/arrythmias
Obstructive: (mechanical) cardiac tamponade, tension pneumo, P.E
Distributive: neurogenic - disruption to autonomic pathways within spinal cord (e.g. spinal cord injury) or vasoactive (sepsis/anaphalaxis)

Q
In haemorrhagic shock what do you expect heart rate, pulse volume and peripheries to feel like?
A
tachycardia
small volume pulse
cool peripheries
