CARDIAC REHAB Flashcards
SURGICAL INTERVENTIONS – Insertion of balloon-tipped catheter
PERECUTANEOUS TRANSLUMINAL
CORONARY ANGIOPLASTY (PTCA)
SURGICAL INTERVENTIONS – Wire pliable mesh
INTRAVASCULAR STENT (IV STENT)
SURGICAL INTERVENTIONS
– Re routing
– Uses bv from pt
CORONARY BYPASS GRAFT (CABG)
Slight limitation of physical activity
– Ordinary physical activity causes anginal symptoms, palpitation, dyspnea, & fatigue
Class II
No limitation of physical activity
– Ordinary physical activity does not cause anginal symptoms, palpitations, dyspnea, & fatigue
Class I
Inability to carry on any physical activity without discomfort
– (+) symptoms of cardiac insufficiency & anginal pain even at rest
– Increased discomfort during physical activity
Class IV
Marked limitation of physical activity
– Less than ordinary physical activity results in anginal symptoms, palpitations, dyspnea, & fatigue
Class III
is performed to examine the ability of the
cardiovascular system to accommodate to
increasing metabolic demand
EXERCISE TOLERANCE TEST
indicates that there is a point at which the
myocardial oxygen supply is inadequate to meet the
myocardial oxygen demand
Positive ETT
indicates that at every tested physiological
workload there is a balanced oxygen supply and demand.
Negative ETT
ETT where there is no obvious change shown in the ECG
False negative ETT
What can cause a False positive ETT result
HTN response to excercise
– Overload refers to placing greater demands on the body than it is
accustomed to
Progressive Overload
– This principle is often referred to as the principle of ‘use it or lose it’
Regression
– The adaptations conferred by training are highly specific to the
volume of training: FITT
