Cardiac Midterm Flashcards
First phase of cardiac cycle
Atrial systole
Second phase of cardiac cycle
Isovolumetric ventricular contraction phase. Ventricles completely closed
Third phase of cardiac phase
Ventricular ejection phase. Opens semilunar valves
Fourth phase of cardiac cycle
Isovolumetric ventricular relaxation/early diastole. Dicrotic notch causes pressure rise in aorta
5 phase of cardiac cycle
Passive ventricular filing
Venous return
Amount of venous blood return to the heart
Preload
Amount ventricles are stretched by contained blood
After load
Back pressure exerted by blood in the large arteries leaving the heart
Cardiac output=
Heart rate x stroke volume
Ejection fraction
Percentage of blood pumped out of a ventricle with each contraction. Around 50-60%
Blood enters atria through 3 veins
Superior vena cava, inferior vena cave, coronary sinus
What do AV valves do
Prevent backflow into the heart
Right semilunar valve
Pulmonary valve. Connects the right ventricle to pulmonary artery
Left semilunar valves
Aortic valve. Connects left ventricle to aorta
5 cardiac veins
Great, middle, small, posterior, anterior
