Cardiac Imaging Flashcards
in a chest X ray…how big does cardiac silhouette need to be to classify as cardiomyopathy?
over 50% of the thoracic line
what can heart failure cause that can be seen in an X ray?
pulmonary edema and pleural effusions
what can we determine with chest X ray?
can help limit differential…able to see chamber enlargements and pulmonary findings from heart disease
define echocardigraphy
ultrasound of the heart using reflected waves to create an image
what are the 3 views in echocradiography?
from PMI
left of parasternal axis
right of parasternal axis
TEE
trans esophageal echo
used for cardiac surgery and for left sided viwing of atrium and ventricle
what is stress echo?
give a B1 agonists and see if everything is still moving succinctly in the heart
nuclear imaging use
add isotopes or dye and they have affinity for cardiac myocytes so they go there and show you whats up
great for CAD and stress tests
Right heart cath route and other name
venous route…Swan Ganz
left heart cath route
arterial route to aorta and can check the CA there
what pressures can we get with right heart cath?
Right atrium, ventricle
pulmonary artery and pulmonary artery wedge pressure
what is the pulmonary artery wedge pressure and why do we like it?
this is the capillary pressure and is pretty equivalent to the left atrium pressure which is about the same as the left ventricle pressure at diastole
what is another imaging technique for coronary arteries?
CT angiography
what disease must you use chest CT with contrast for?
any issue having to do with the thoracic aorta
