Cardiac function Flashcards
How does blood flow through the heart?
Vena cava -> RA - tricuspid valve -> RV -> pulmonic valve -> pulmonary artery -> lungs -> pulmonary vein -> LA -> mitral valve -> LV -> aortic valve -> aorta
What electrical activity triggers systole?
Depolarization
What happens during systole?
Contraction - LV ejects blood into aorta
What happens during diastole?
Ventricle relaxation/heart is filling
What blood vessels supply the LA?
Left coronary artery
Left anterior descending
Left circumflex artery
What blood vessel supplies the RA?
Right coronary artery
How do you find CO?
CO = HR x SV
What is preload?
Accommodation of incoming blood - how much blood is filled before systole
What is afterload?
Resistant to blood flow in the circulatory system
In what organ is decreased cardiac output seen first?
Kidneys via urine output, color of urine, BUN, creatinine
What are signs of impaired cardiac output?
Pallor Cool skin Diminished pulses Changes in mental clarity Decrease urine output
What is a normal HR for newborns?
130-160
What is a normal HR for infants?
80-150
What is a normal HR for toddlers?
70-110
What is collateral blood flow?
When new blood vessel are formed to continue blood flow outside of the blocked vessel
