Cardiac Enzymes Flashcards
Creatine kinase (CK)
25-200 U/L
Creatine kinase (CK) - intracellular enzyme present in skeletal muscles, myocardium, and brain. Becomes released in bloodstream with tissue injury. Assists diagnoses of rhabdomyolysis, MI, myositis, myocarditis. May also be elevated in pt’s using statins; hypothyroidism, malignant hyperthermia, neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
Creatine kinase MB (CKMB) or (CPK-MB test: enzyme phosphocreatine kinase)
0-4 ng/ml
Creatine kinase MB (CKMB) - cardiac maker used to assist diagnoses of acute MI. Measures blood level of CK-MB (creatine kinase myocardial band).
Troponin
0-0.4 ng/mL
Troponin - protein found in cardiac and skeletal muscles. Troponin levels can increase within 3-4 hrs following heart muscle damage and can remain high for up to 14 days.
