Cardiac drug groups Flashcards
1
Q
Beta Blockers
BB
A
- Check BP systolic <100
-long term prevention of angina and hyper
-selectively block beta adrenergic receptors - decrease cardia output
-stops reaction chain
Adrenaline > Beta 1 > Vasoconstriction > tachy
-Cant control release of adrenaline but can block its reaction
2
Q
Calcium Channel Blockers
A
- Prevent angina, arrhythmias and hyper
- prevent passage of calcium ions across myocardial cell membrane
- causes dilation of coronary and peripheral arteries - relaxes blood vessels
- decreases force of heart contractions and workload
- increase o2 supply by slowing the heart
3
Q
ACE inhibitors
A
-Angiotensin Converting Enzymes
- RAAS
- blocks conversion of angiotensin 1 to angiotensin 2
- leads to control BP through vaso dilation
Renin > Angiotensin 1 > Angiotensin 2 (vasoconstriction) > Aldoserone > absorbs sodium and water > ^ BP and CO
4
Q
ARB
A
Angiotensin Receptor Blockers
-when pt has intolerance to ACE inhibitors
5
Q
Inotropic
A
- influences contraction of muscular tissue
- increases force of heart contractions
- recommended for AF pt
- Cardiac Glycosides (increase output)
6
Q
Digitalis
A
- caution with slow heart rate <60 bpm
- Acts on sodium potassium cells
- increases contractions - improves calcium
- slows sa and av nodes
- absorption through small intestine
7
Q
Nitrates
A
- increase blood flow, decrease BP
- angina and vaso dilation
- Glyceryl Trintrate GTN - dilates veins and arteries, reduces venous return
8
Q
Antiarrhythmics
A
- Supresses fart rhythm
- can be life threatening, toxic drug
- aims to normalise conduction
- monitor heart rate and rhythm - ECG
- pt education
9
Q
MONA
A
M- Morphine - reduces anxiety, vasodilator
O - Oxygen
N - Nitrates
A - Aspirin - reduces platlets sticking together reducing clot (anti platlets)
10
Q
MI Blood tests
A
Blood tests for
- Troponin
- Creatine Kinase (CK)
- Myoglobin
