Cardiac Disease Symptoms Quiz 3 Flashcards
Dyspnea on exertion
Failure of LV output to increase during exercise often accompanied w/ left heart failure w/ secondary pulmonary edema.
Cardiac dilation
Greater ventricular EDV
Chest discomort/pain w/ exertion
Usually myocardial ischemia secondary to CAD
Syncope
hypotension/shock from arrthymias or acute pump failure.
Fatigue
reduced CO/poor peripheral perfusion
Cyanosis
oxygen saturation usually below 85% if cyanotic.
Orthopnea (SOB when supine)
Increased venous return in supine position exacerbates pulmonary vascular congestion.
Hepatomegaly
Increased CVP –> Increased resistance to portal flow.
Rarely leads to “cardiac cirrhosis”
Edema
Both peripheral and pulmonary
Increased venous pressure = increased orthostatic pressure.
