Cardiac Cycle Phases Flashcards
Phase 1: ventricular filling
Mid to late diastole
Blood enters passively thru AV valves into ventricles
Cardiac cycle
All events associated with flow thru the heart during a single heart beat
Phase 2: isovolumetric contraction
Beginning of systole
All valves closed.
No blood moving
Ventricles begin to contract
Phase 3: ventricular ejection
SL valves open for ejection
Ending ejection: End of systole and beginning of diastole
Phase 4: isovolumetric relaxation
Early diastole
All valves closed
Atrial pressure exceeds pressure in ventricle, AV valves open and begins phase 1.
Diastole and systole
65% of the time in diastole
Gives heart enough time to fill with blood
Prevents fatigue
Diastolic pressure
Aortic pressure reaches a minimum
Systolic pressure
Aortic pressure reaches a maximum
MAP
Avg aortic pressure during cardiac cycle
Represents driving force that pushes blood thru systemic circuit
Pulse pressure
Systolic - diastolic
MAP
Diastolic + (1/3)(PP)
