Cardiac Cycle Flashcards
- Late diastole
both sets of chambers relaxed and ventricles filled passively
- Atrial systole = p wave
atrial contraction forces small amount of additional blood into v’s
still part of diastole
- Isovolumic ventricular contraction
first phase of v contraction pushes AV valves closed
volume doesnt change as no blood is moving out of v’s
- Ventricular ejection
ventricular pressure rises and exceeds pressure in arteries, semilunar valves open and blood is ejected
first phase of systole
- Isovolumic ventricular relaxation
As ventricles relax, pressure in v falls, blood flows back into cups of SL valves and snaps them closed
no change in blood volume
Cardiac Cycle
“All mechanical and electrical events occurring during a single heart beat” 2:1 ratio
Diastole - ventricles untwist, lengthens and unthickens
- relaxation allows for filling
Systole - ventricles twist, shorten and thickens
- blood rapidly ejected from ventricle, high
pressure
