3
Q

what happens w HTN that causes aneurysm

A

HTN causes an inc pressure on blood vessel wall
blood vessel walls become thicker and dilate
blood vessel bursts resulting in aneurysm

Q

what is a fusiform aneurysm

A

around the entire circumference of vessel
- gradual and progressive
- interventions are case by case

Q

what is a berry aneurysm

A

type of saccular with a small neck that are found at the bifurcations, still ballon shaped
- most common where anterior and posterios cerebral arteries come together at base of brain (circle of willis)

Q

what is a false (pseudo) aneurysm

A

localized dissection or tear in the inner artery wall
- blood flowing between wall
- type of hematoma
- complications of vascular intervention procedures

16
Q

what is the difference between dissection or aneurysms

A
  • dissections tear away
  • aneurysms bulge
17
Q

what are the manifestations of an aortic dissection

A

sudden severe, tearing pain
early stage –> bp elevated
later stage –> unobtainable BP, syncope, hemiplegia, paralysis or LE, cardiovascular collapse –> shock –> death

18
Q

what is the treatment for an aortic dissection

A

surgery
beta blockers
nitrates
