Cardiac Action Potential Flashcards
1
Q
Phase 0
A
Sodium storms the gates and enters the cell.
2
Q
Phase 1
A
Potassium flees the cell
(Early repolarization)
3
Q
Phase 2
A
Sodium opens the gates for calcium to enter and calcium frees their own kind from the sarcoplasmic recticulm (calcium dependant calcium release)
Depolarization has occurred!
4
Q
Phase 3
A
Potassium efflux continues (rapid repolarization) and regroups outside myocyte
5
Q
Phase 4
A
Potassium enters the cells with the power of ATP in a Na/K pump kicking 3 sodium out for every 2 potassium.
Cell becomes inwardly negative meaning it is repolarized.
