Cardiac Flashcards
what is a CVA
cerebrovascular accident or stroke
signs and symptoms of a cerebrovascular accident
- sudden onset headache
- facial droop
- one-sided weakness
- neglecting one side of the body
- slurred speech
- inability to communicate effectively
- sudden vision change
- confusion
- nausea and vomiting
what is tachycardia
a heart rate over 100
what can you give to a patient experienceing chest pain
Asprin and Nitro
what does aspirin do in the body
blocks platelet aggregation and vasoconstriction
what does nitro do in the body
reduces cardiac oxygen demand primarily by dilating blood vessels. this causes a decrease in blood flow to the heart from the body and decreased resistance to the hearts pumping.
dilation of coronary arteries results in increased blood flow to the cardiac tissue
what are the contrandications of Asprin
Asthma exacerbation: does asprin make your asthma worse?
Allergy
Acute bleed: signs and symptoms of a CVA or history of recent head trauma
Pediatric
Dose: 162mg in 12 hours
what are the cautions for asprin
Pregnancy
Recent internal bleeding
bleeding disorders
Anticoagulant
Surgery: any recent major surgery?
compression rate and depth for an adult
5 cm or 2 inches
two person cpr- 30 compressions to 2 ventillations
one person cpr- 30 compressions to 2 ventillations
how do you check if someone is in cardiac arrest
by simultaneously checking airway, breathing and circulation via carotid artery for 10 seconds
if a patient does not have a prescription for nitro what should you do
if a patient is experiencing chest pain with a SPB greater than 100mmHg, heart greater than 50 and less than 150 call epos
what do you need to ensure about SBP before adminstering each dose of nitro
SBP is greater than or equal to 90 and if it has dropped more than 20mmHg call EPOS
