Carbon-Oxygen Cycle Flashcards
1
Q
Volcanic Eruptions
A
- Release large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere
2
Q
Carbon Sequestration (On land)
A
- On land, plants take in Carbon Dioxide to use in photosynthesis and store within their tissues (cells)
3
Q
Carbon Sequestration (definition)
A
- Removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, happens in forests, big bodies of water, oceans and lakes.
4
Q
Carbon Sequestration (In ocean)
A
- In the ocean, phytoplankton and other marine organisms take in carbon through photosynthesis.
- Oceans dissolve carbon dioxide, Splits the carbon dioxide apart, mixes with other molecules and creates an acid, carbonic acid (sequestration), bleaching coral and eroding shells of crustaceans.
- Co2 combines with water and forms calcium formation of carbonate shells.
5
Q
Cellular respiration
A
- Both plants and animals, take in oxygen and consume glucose, chemical reactions occur from the glucose, mixes glucose (carbon?) with oxygen and makes Co2 releasing it to the atmosphere.
6
Q
Photosynthesis
A
- Plant cells absorb solar energy, carbon dioxide and water and convert them into oxygen, water and glucose (energy)
