Carbohydrate Metabolism- Glycogenolysis Flashcards
1
Q
How does the chain shortening of glycogenolysis occur?
A
Glycogenolysis chain shortening occurs through glycogen phosphorylase that cuts the alpha-1,4- glycosidic linkages. Debranching enzyme cuts the alpha-1,6- linkages and adds them to the glycogen alpha-1,4- linkage chain.
***glycogen phosphorylase KEEPS cutting them up into G-1-P!!!!!!!!!!

Q
Where does glycogenolysis occur?
A
The majority of glycogenolysis occurs in the cytoplasm.
**HOWEVER, there is a SMALL AMT that occurs in the LYSOSOMES.
