Elevating devices shall not be elevated in wind conditions in excess of 55 kph or risk of lightning storms in the area

When returning elevated device to apparatus bed exert a downward pressure of 1000-1200 psi

35
Q

SOG 13-14

Water tanker shuttle

If BFES requires multiple water tankers to attend an incident a minimum of four water tankers from CFES shall be dispatched

A

CFES officer shall assume role of water sector officer WSO

36
Q

Flowpath

A

The movement of heat and smoke from the higher pressure within the fire area toward the lower pressure.

37
Q

Fuel limit SOG 17-01 Ventilation

A

The heat release rate of the fire is limited primarily by the chemical and physical characteristics of the available fuels
Indicators may include- incipient or early growth fire - high neutral plane or smoke layer
Better visibility- relatively low temperatures

38
Q

SOG 17-01 ventilation

Hydraulic ventilation

Mechanical ventilation

Natural ventilation

A

Using water flow to draw the air out of a structure

Using machinery to assist movement of air PPV

Allowing air to move naturally without assistance ex. Wind open window…

39
Q

SOG 17-01

Tactical ventilation is -

A

The planned systematic and co ordinated removal of heat smoke and fire gases and their replacement with cooler fresh air

40
Q

SOG 17-01

Vent limited

A

A fire which the heat release rate and fire growth are regulated by indicators that may include-

Fire is beyond incipient stage, mid to low neutral plane (smoke layer) poor visibility, flames exiting outside a window or door, air being drawn into the fire when a door is opened, increases temperatures but will be declining in decay stage, all common backdraft indicators

41
Q

Ventilation profile is according to SOG 17-01

A

The ventilation points showing the flow paths of heat and smoke out of the structure as well as any movement of air into the structure

42
Q

SOG 17-01 Ventilation profile

The following should be considered when determining a structures ventilation profile

A
Existing and or potential flow paths
The location and stage of the fire
Fuel or vent limited
Wind direction
Smoke conditions, volume, velocity, density and colour
Exposures, rescue or suppression
Building layout and construction
Integrated ventilation systems
43
Q

Door control according to SOG 17 Dash 01 ventilation

A

The front door should be considered as part of the overall ventilation strategy doors provide access for fire crews to perform fire attack and search opening a door also allows fresh air to feed a developing fire
Closing an open door to a structure immediately upon arrival until there is a tactical advantage to opening it will help to control the heat release rate of the fire

44
Q

SOG 17 –01 ventilation

Tactics
Personnel shall decide on ventilation tactics natural, mechanical, or hydraulic. Consider the following when choosing your tactical plan for ventilation

A

Tactics complement the incident action plan
The location of personnel committed to interior operations
Occupant location
How tactics may affect low pass, fire behaviour and operational time frames

45
Q

SOG 17-01

Communication and coordination

A

Suppression and ventilation tactics shall be controlled, communicated and coordinated. Personnel shall be advised of changes to the ventilation profile or conditions as a result of the tactical ventilation.

46
Q

SOG 17-02 Positive pressure ventilation PPV

Ventilation is to be considered for a specific type of ventilation. Any PPV usage shall be after fire control

A

Determine the ventilation profile of the structure.

Ensure the fire has been deemed under control.

Fan operations shall be coordinated with interior personnel.

Found placement should allow for complete airflow coverage of the inlet

Exhaust locations shall be created as necessary to ensure controlled smoke removal

47
Q

SOG 17-03

Positive Pressure Attack

PPA - is used to create a Uni directional flow path to remove smoke, and other products of combustion from a structure to create tenable atmosphere, improve the speed of access to the fire location and occupants
Combining PPA with a transitional attack have any to your cruise by water into the upper portions of the ceiling area facilitate gas cooling well proceeding to the fire room will greatly increase the effectiveness and safety of PPA

A

Backflow can be described as pressurized air coming out at the inlet point. Personnel will know almost instantly after the fan is placed in operation with the backflow at the inlet point whether or not the fire and building are appropriate for use of PPE. If heavy smoke or fire is exhausting out the inlet point the fire at most likely does not lend itself to PPE.

48
Q

Transitional attack

A

And offensive fire attack initiated by an exterior indirect hemline operation, into the fire compartment, to initiate cooling while transitioning into interior direct fire attack in coordination with the ventilation

49
Q

Considerations for positive pressure attack

A
360 size app has been completed
Flow paths have been determined
Confirm any vent enter isolate search operations are complete and has protected themselves and the occupants
VEIS
Fire location is determined
The fire does not involve the structure
Minimum two crews on scene
Exhaust locations have been determined
50
Q

Placement of bands for positive pressure attack

A

Dilation fans should be positioned up to 2 m back entry point the objective is to create a pressure affect around the door

51
Q

Exhaust point for PPA

How long should personnel allow prior to entering structure

A

Exhaust outlet if possible should be on a ratio of 2 to 1 to the entry or at a minimum 121 to the entry

Personnel should allow at least 30 to 60 seconds of ventilation fan input prior to entering the structure

52
Q

Exposure control with PPA

A

Positive pressure fans may be used for exposure control this is most effective common attics example strip shopping centres for apartment complexes were separating Rowles may have been breached example plumbing cracks etc. the objective is to introduce the ventilation fans ahead of a moving fire force it back into the fire area

53
Q

According to SOG 17 –4 high-rise ventilation what is the set up of two fans in series one placed in front of another

What is Stack effect

A

1.5 to 2 m between fans in series

Stack effect. Stack effect or chimney affect is the movement of air into and out of buildings, chimneys, blue gas stacks, or other containers resulting from air buoyancy

54
Q

According to SOG 17 -4 what shall the third arising apparatus be assigned to unless otherwise directed.

A

Third arriving apparatus shall begin set up for ventilating high-rise structure of third apparatus personnel shall set up at the exterior exit to the operations stairwell. Ventilation sector officer will determine and designate the operations stairwell

55
Q

Containment operations according to high-rise ventilation SOG 17 04

A

Personnel ascending stairwells shall determine

Containment operations
Effectiveness of ventilation

Smoke removal options
Area of origin
Across or nearby area of origin
Roof access hatch
Smoke shafts
56
Q

SOG 20-01 fire investigations

Important points

A

Incident commander should determine when it is safe for the investigator to enter a scene and commence cars determination which includes air quality safety environmental hazards structural integrity all of the hazard which might jeopardize safety.
Report shall be generated by the PC and forwarded to on duty the chief and on call fire prevention if fire loss exceeds 100,000 dollars

57
Q

SOG 23-01
Fire Alarm Activations No Fire Conditions

On Arrival -
False Alarm-
Fails to Reset-
Considerations-

A

Personnel shall make every effort to establish contact individuals on premises. If false alarm use signal alarm silence announce using voice communication system that the problem has been identified and that it is a false alarm reset panel.
If the system fails to reset systems should not be silenced until after at least one minute of activation the area for indication should still be showing on the alarm panel. Issue a notice to rectify advise the owner or tenant to institute a firewatch of the affected area floor until such time repairs have been completed

58
Q

SOG 23-02

Fire alarm activated no access

A

Once the determination is made to access cannot be gained to the occupancy incident commander shall confirm that a keyholder has been notified confirm that time the incident call was received from fire communications confirmed estimated time of arrival for keyholder reform 360 of the premises if possible. Personnel shall wait 30 minutes from the time the incident call was received by fire communications.
If access cannot be made possible entry should occur
There are visible signs of fire, there is a passable steady uninterrupted water flow, there is an obvious potential for immediate danger to life or property, there is a reasonable possibility that a medical emergency prompted alarm activation.
Upon use of forcible entry fire control shall notify PRP, Alarm Monitoring Company, PC
