capsule pathologies Flashcards
Capsule
Dense fibrous connective tissue, lined with synovium
Bundles of collagen fibres firmly adhered to bone
Thickness and fibre orientation depend on stresses endured
Shouler Adhesive Capsulitis
“frozen shoudler”
Spontaneous onset of shoulder pain accompanied by progressive limitation of both active and passive glenohumeral joint movements
Shouler Adhesive Capsulitis causes
Shoudler Adhesive Capsulitis causes post trauma post surgery secondary to endocrine disease idiopathic
Shouler Adhesive Capsulitis pathophysiology
pre-adhesive stage-
painful with minimal loss of movement
synoival inflammtion
freezing stage-
limitation of passive and active ROM
synovial imflammation with early capsule adhesion
Frozen stage-
significant limitation of ROM
Minimal pain
dense adhesive and capsular fibrosis
Thawing stage-minimal pain with progressive improvement in ROM
Treatment of Shouler Adhesive Capsulitis
natural course self limiting condition lasting 18-30 months
physiotherapy-manipulation
corticosteriod injection
arthroscopic release
