CAPD Midterm Flashcards
what are the test battery considerations for (C)APD
sensitivity and specificity, test reliability, ease of administration, population characteristics
The target word for the ACPT is _____ and the number of test items in each trial is _____ that must be reapeated ____ times.
dog, 96, 6
right ear advantage is considered normal until?
11-12 years
name 2 tests that assess temporal ordering
duration pattern test, pitch pattern sequence test
name 2 tests that assess temporal resolution
gaps in noise test, random gap detection
LiSN-S was developed in?
Australia
what condition provides the best MLD
MoSπ
what frequency is used to provide the best MLD
500 Hz
what are symptom-specific considerations?
test battery should be decided based on the referring complaint and information available to the audiologist
what are patient specific considerations?
can the patient do the test - do they have cognitive probs, developmental probs, concussion, TBI
what do dichotic processing tests assess?
binaural integration or binaural separation. they are sensitive to lesions of the corpus callosum and cerebral cortex
if you struggle with dichotic processing you will have trouble with speech in noise & following rapid speech and instructions
what concerns do dichotic processing problems create in the classroom
the background noise will cause the child to miss what the teacher says & they will need instructions repeatd especially in group settings
For a (C)APD test battery, what central processes should be assessed aka the 4 categories of auditory processing
dichotic processes, temporal processes, binaural interaction and monaural low redundancy speech/auditory closure processes
what do temporal processes and pattern tests assess?
the ability to perceive a pattern and temporal function abilities. they are sensitive to a compromised right hemisphere
temporal processing issues result in
trouble with rapid speech, rhythms and patterns, hearing in noise, need repetions, miss instructions
what concerns do temporal processing problems create in the classroom
missing instructions, can not read outloud, trouble with similar sounds
what do binaural interaction/fusion tests assess ?
the interaction between two ears
what will you see if someone struggles with binaural interaction
localizing problems, hearing in noise, spatial awareness
what do monaural low redundancy speech/auditory closure tests assess ?
they involve modifying the signal and are not sensitive to brainstem lesions
what tests assess monaural low redundancy speech/auditory closure ?
filtered words, time compressed sentences, SSI ICM, speech in noise
what problems will you see in someone who struggles with monaural low redundancy speech/auditory closure
problems with muffled speech, trouble on phone, probs with rapid speech and accents, probs in reverberany spaces, may miss instructions
recommendations for a (C)APD evaluation
case history, questionares, pure tones, soeech, electrophysiologic measures, psychoeducational evaluation, how they are doing in school, how they are socially, and work history is an adult
(C)APD screening questionnaires
CHAPS, SIFTER and fishers auditory problem checklist
tell me about the children’s auditory performance scale (CHAPS)
author = smoski, brunt, tanhill
tests listening behavior in diverse listening situations (6 different conditions). we want to compare the childs ability to their peers. used by parents and teachers.
what are the ages for the CHAPS
7 years and up
tell me about the screening instrument for targeting educational risk (SIFTER)
author = anderson
completed by the childs teacher. 15 questions, 3 of each questions in the following categories - academics, attention, class participation, and social behavior. used to compare child to peers and can be tracked to compare the childs performance over time.
what are the ages for the SIFTER
1st to 5th grade
tell me about fishers auditory problem checklist
author = fisher
gives us info about the childs listening abilties in a classroom. completed by the teacher. they place a check next to the observed behaviors, items not selected are used to dermine a percentage. we refer if the child gets less than 72%
what behaviors does fishers auditory probelms checklist observe
failure to attent to instructions. need to repeat instructions, easilt distracted by auditory stimuli, trouble processing in a competing acoustic environement. it also asks about attention & memory problems.
according to wilson et al, what was the relationship that was found between the screeners and behavioral tests
found the screeners did a poor job of predicting the patients diagnostic test result. screeners should be used to find concerns in a child but not to determine if a diagnostic test is needed.
(C)APD behavioral tests
PSI, ACPT and the SCAN-3C
tell me about the pediatric speech intelligibility test (PSI)
jerger & jerger
assesses auditory figure ground (aka the ability to hear in noise) & auditory closure (ability to fill in the blanks).
sensitive to CAPD. sensitive to lower brainsetm deficits.
