Capacitance Flashcards
1
Q
what is capacitance
A
charge stored per unit p.d. across it
2
Q
how do capacitor plates acquire an equal but opposite charge when a circuit is complete
A
- electrons repelled from negative terminal
- deposited on one of the capacitor plates and repelled from the other
- same number of electrons deposited as removed, causing the plates to obtain equal but opposite charges
3
Q
explain in terms of movement of electrons how the p.d across the capacitor changes
A
- electrons move from negative terminal
- deposited at capacitor and repels electrons on the other plate of the capacitor
- one side is now positive and the other is negative meaning voltage increases exponentially
