Move your hands for right torsion.
Vault hold
- Right hand: index finger up; pinky down (fingers point to ceiling)
- Left hand: fingers go down into table
Move your hands for left torsion.
Vault hold
- Left hand: index finger up to ceiling; pinky down (fingers to ceiling)
- Right hand: fingers go down into table
Move you hands for a right sidebending rotation.
Vault hold
- Right hand: index & pinky spread apart; index to ceiling & pinky into table; right side may feel fuller (convex)
- Left hand: index & pinky adduct towards each other
Move your hands for left sidebending rotation.
Vault hold
- Left hand: head feels fuller (convexity); index & pinky fingers move apart; index to ceiling & pinky to table
- Right hand: index & pinky fingers move closer together
What are the pathologic strain patterns?
- Vertical strains
- Lateral strains
- SBS compression
Move your hands for a superior vertical strain.
Vault hold
- Both hands: index fingers move downard (following greater wings of sphenoid)
- Both hands: pinky fingers move toward physician & upward
As if you twist your hands to make you pinkies parallel to your body
Move your hands for a inferior vertical strain.

- Both hands: index fingers move up & point to ceiling (following greater wings of sphenoid)
- Both hands: pinkies move down pointing at the patients feet
As if you want to point index fingers straight to ceiling

- Index fingers: move right
- Pinky fingers: move left
