What is Parvo
> Highly contagious
Acute severe gastroenteritis
Clinical signs 4-9 days after exposure
Very resistant survive in environment for 1 yr or longer
Parvo transmission
> Fecal-oral route
Fomites
Environmental
Replicates in lymphoid tissue of oral cavity and pharynx
CS of Parvo
> Common in puppies less than year old or unvaccinated dogs
Acute onset of vomit,diarrhea,anorexia,lethargy
Often present with fever
Diagnosis of Parvo
> In house ELISA test
> Lab test help with diagnosis
Parvo treatment
> Supportive care (Electrolyte imbalances)
NPO until vomit subsides
Broad spectrum antibiotics
Anti emetics, Analgesics

> Isolation and care
- PPE
What breeds are most susceptible to parvo
> Rotts > Dobermans > Pitbulls > German shepherds > Labs
