Fecal- oral
Which group of animals does Canine Parvovirus primarily affect?
Young unvaccinated puppies
What are some hospital considerations with Parvovirus?
-Parvo until proven otherwise
-Isolation of cases
-proper PPE
-Proper cleaning of waste and supplies
Clinical signs of Parvovirus
- depression lethargy
-anorexia - vomiting and bloody diarrhea
- Dehydration and fever
Diagnosis
- Positive fecal ELISA
- Serology: high CVP titer
What CBC results would you expect to see in a case of Canine Parvovirus?
Lymphopenia, Neutropenia, and Increased PCV
What Chemistry results would you expect to see in a case of Canine Parvovirus?
Hypoglycemia, Hyponatremia, Hypokalemia
Treatment
Supportive:
IV fluids +/- electrolytes & Dextrose
Antibiotics
Antiemetics
Nutrition
Prevention
Vaccination
