What are the core Vx for dogs
Parvo, distemper and infectious hepatitis (adenovirus)
What are the core Vx for cats
Feline panleukopenia, feline herpes and Calicivirus.
What type of immunity does panleukopenia and calicivirus Vx provide?
Relative immunity that only lasts <1yr.
What are the non-core Vx for dogs?
Bordatella, Corona and lepto.
What are the non-core Vx for cats?
Chlamydophila, Feline Leukemia Virus and Feline immunodeficiency virus.
What is the vaccination program for puppies and kittens?
3 doses each with 4 weeks interval. Start 1st when they are 6-8 weeks. Then a booster at 6 months. ** for dogs, if want to give the bordatella Vx give it intranasaly on the 2nd shot (local immune response so not affected by Mat AB))
What is the vaccine program for adult dogs?
C3 given every 3 yrs
bordatella (C5) every 6-12 months.
+/- Heartworm proheart annually
What is the vaccine program for cats?
Ducat annually (calici and panleukopenia) Herpes given every 3 yrs?
What is an example of a possible parasite control program for dogs?
Milbemax for intestinal (3 months) Bravecto for ectoparasites (3 months) Proheart for heartworm (annually) OR Milbemax for heartworm (monthly)
What is an example of a possible parasite control program for cats?
Similar to dogs, use milbemax and bravecto. If give bravecto plus when kitten is < 1 month, can get it every 2 months.
Desexing dogs, best age and breed differences.
@ 5-6 month for smaller dogs,
When growth plates close for giant breeds.
Desexing cats, usual time and earliest possible.
Usually @ 5-6 months.
Earliest @ 8 weeks when >1kg.
