How often do we require a heartworm test?
What if the dog has been on prevention?
We require a heartworm test once yearly.
The FDA requires that a veterinarian must confirm that the dog is heartworm-negative before the dog can have heartworm prevention. Nothing is 100% effective, and giving HWP to a heartworm-positive dog could cause harm. Our doctors have decided that once yearly is the most reasonable frequency.

The first heat cycle can start anywhere from 6-24 months old.

Dogs typically go into heat 1-2 times per year. The actual heat (when they are fertile and often bleeding) can last 2-4 weeks.
