A
- George and Lennie’s relationship
- Like Candy’s dog, Lennie depends on George to take care of him and show him what to do
- Is also different from the other ranch hands as he has a constant companion to keep him
- He tells George later he should have shot the dog himself, which foreshadows George having to kill Lennie as he feels responsible for him

- Causes George to believe briefly that the dream may become true
