What are the risk factors of getting CA?
Age (above 65) Heredity Nutrition Environment Smoking/drugs/alcohol abuse Immuno suppressed (virus-HIV) Obesity
What are the 7 warning signs of CA?
C hange in B&B A sore that does not heal U nusual bleeding T hickening or Lump I ndigestion Obvoius change in a wart/mole (color) N agging cough
What are the 4 signs of breast CA?
1) Lump or thickening
2) Inverted nipple
3) Discharge from nipple
4) Dimple
Name carcinogens of CA.
Environment (radiation,car fumes,sun)
Smoking
Over exposure to sun
Eating charcholed food- grilling
What is chemotherapy?
Drug that attacks cancer cells
AKA cancer cells
What should the CNA do for someone who has had chemotherapy?
Never touch IV fluids Could give 3rd degree burns Check IV often Patients ADLs Washed VS (increase in temp) Talk to them Emotional support Use electric razor Alternate periods of rest and activity Soft tooth brush Patient may be depressed Blow nose gently Patient will have lower self esteem Profound fatigue
What is radiation therapy?
Beam of ions directed at site of cancer Mark is made on body Decrease tumor size May make cancer go away Decrease pain
What should the CNA do for the patient who is receiving radiation therapy?
Do NOT wash away marked spot on body
Pat dry
What is brachy therapy?
Radiation seeds that get planted into body No kids under 18 can be in the room No pregnant people (including nurses) Prostrate- seed in rectum Ovarian and uterus- seed in vagina

Massage Herbal medicine Music Privacy Aromatherapy
What is stem cell therapy?
Baby cell that can morph into other cells
Body is very achy afterwards
Used for leukemia and lymphoma
What is immuno therapy?
Helps immune system fight cancer
Protects the body from the side affects of cancer treatments
Chills, fever, flu-like symptoms, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting
