define opioid addiction

usually not a problem is no previous history and taking it for the pain effects
define physical dependence
occurence of abstinence syndrome when the opioid is suddenly stopped
fairly common so need a gradual withdrawal
mu receptors are used to an opioid being attached
define tolerance
decrease in one or more effects of the opiooid
can become tolerant to the sedation and the anlagesic effects, can overcome by additional dosing
