What makes you eligible to do Jury duty? And what makes you not eligible?
Anyone 18 and older and a Canadian citizen is eligible for jury duty. Some people are not eligible such as people convicted of some crimes.
Can you opt out of Jury Duty?
If summoned for jury duty it is your responsibility to go. This may include you taking time off work, classes or rebooking appointments.
What must your employer due if you have Jury duty?
Employees have to give time off for jury duty but they do not have to pay you
What reason may you be exempt from Jury Duty?
People are excused from jury duty only if they can demonstrate that it would cause them undue hardship.
What are 2 advocacy groups, and what are there purpose?
John Howard Society & Elizabeth Fry Society
● They work independently of the government. They try to solve the reasons that crime is happening
Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Help young offenders, move forward, and re-integrate them back into society where they are safe. And have learned from their actions.
What does the Elizabeth Fry Society focus on mainly? What does the John Howard Society focus in on?
Elizabeth Fry Society focuses on justice issues for women and girls whereas the John Howard
Society works with everyone.
