Camera Focus Flashcards
Types of Camera Shot Focus
Rack Focus / Focus Pull Shallow Focus Deep Focus Tilt-Shift Soft Focus Split Diopter
term used to describe the size of the area in your image where objects appear acceptably sharp.
Depth of field (DOF)
The area in question is known as the
field
the size (in z-space) of that area is the _ of that field.
depth
The center most point of the field is known as the
point of focus
imaginary two dimensional plane that extends from that point is known as the
plane of focus
filmmaking technique of changing the focus of the lens during a continuous shot
rack focus
one plane of the scene is in focus while the rest is out of focus
shallow focus
the foreground, middle ground, and background are all in focus
deep focus
one that changes the orientation and position of the lens mechanism with respect to the image sensor
tilt shift lens
is a way of photographing things so that the edges of the objects in the photograph are relatively not sharp or clear
is used for reducing the local contrast in an image, and also for adding a kind of dreamy glow
Soft focus
is half convex glass that attaches in front of the camera’s main lens to make half the lens nearsighted
lens can focus on a plane in the background and the diopter on a foreground element
Split Focus Diopter
used to specify the location where the camera is placed to take a shot. The position of the camera in relation to the subjects can affect the way the viewer perceives the scene.
camera shot angle
Types of Camera Shot Angles
Eye Level Shot Low Angle Shot High Angle Shot Hip Level Shot Knee Level Shot Ground Level Shot Shoulder-Level Shot Dutch Angle Shot Birds-Eye-View Shot / Overhead Shot Aerial Shot / Helicopter Shot
most common height in camera shot angles.
When your subject is at __ they’re in a neutral perspective
Eye Level Shot
frames the subject from a low camera height looking up at them
low angle shot
camera points down at your subject
high angle shot
when your camera is roughly waist-high
hip level shot
when your camera height is about as low as your subject’s knees
knee level shot
when your camera’s height is on ground level with your subject
ground level shot
when your camera is roughly as high as your subject’s shoulders
shoulder level shot
the camera is slanted to one side
dutch angle/dutch tilt shot
is from way up high, looking down on your subject and a good amount of the scenery surrounding him or her
Bird’s Eye View Shot or Overhead Shot
shot from way up high
aerial shot
