What reduces the use of transport in Cambourne?
● The greenway, footpaths, cycle ways and bridleways have been specifically designed to encourage walking and cycling within the site (12 miles of new footpaths, cycleways and bridleways)
● The Eco Park acts as Cambourne’s town park providing a green link between the town centre, the Business Park and Lower Cambourne. This encourages residents to use green transport promoting healthy living and discouraging the use of vehicles.

What increases habitat in Cambourne?
● Existing ponds, watercourses and ditches on the site were retained.
● New open ditches, swales, ponds and lakes have been created to link the water system together, the system is able to take 4000 hectares of surface water and flood discharge. This has created over 6 hectares of wetlands and lakes promoting diversity (water voles and kingfishers)
The Eco Park promotes biodiversity

− Newt reserve streams and ditches
− Marsh areas with fenland reed beds and boardwalk
− Willow and alder carr
− Ridges and furrow grassland

− Mature woodland and hedges
● 45 hectares of trees and over 10 miles of hedgerows have been planted (containing 250,000 trees and shrubs). These also shelter the houses from prevailing westerly winds

● Allotments are a green space and create the opportunity to grow vegetables and fruit and therefore reduce food costs
● Has wind turbines located within the managed lakes

How does Cambourne encourage recreation and leisure?
● the lakes provide local residents with fishing areas, and a fishing club has been set up within the village
● playing fields, tennis courts, skate park, cricket pavilion/pitch and MUGA provide residents with indoor and outdoor leisure areas
The Country Park is used for a whole range of activities such as walking, jogging, bird watching and dog walking. It is the venue for community events such as bonfire night celebrations.

● Business park located close to the entrance to the development from the A428. Green spaces are located around the park which are managing by local staff
● Bus service and bridleway.

What are the issues with Cambourne?
● The size of the new settlement is too small to justify building a secondary school, so children have to go to Comberton Village College, over seven miles away
