Calibration and Biological Drawings Flashcards
1
Q
Outline the criteria for constructing a biological drawing.
A
- Large as possible
- No shading, colours or overlapping lines
- Add title, scale and labels
- Only draw what’s in the img
2
Q
Why do light microscopes need to be calibrated?
A
- Ensures the same sample gives the same results w diff microscopes
- Diff micros can give diff readings if not calibrated
3
Q
What is an eyepiece graticule?
A
- Glass disc in eyepiece used to measure sample
- Has 100 divisions + no units
- Relative size of divisions inc w mag
- Calibrated w stage micrometer
4
Q
What is a stage micrometer?
A
- Microscope slide w acc scale in micrometres
2. 100 divisions = 1mm
5
Q
What is the formula for calculating 1 graticule division?
A
1 graticule division = no of micrometres/ no of graticule divisions
6
Q
Outline the process of calibration.
A
- Put in stage micro + graticule
- Align graticule scale w stage micro
- Replace stage micro w specimen slide
- Use calibrated graticule to measure specimen
